Fall 2025 NSF Futures Engine Cohort application now open!
STEMAP is currently recruiting for the fall semester in collaboration with the NSF Futures Engine in the Southwest. Through this training, participants will learn how to develop innovative and impactful public engagement projects through community partnerships, in alignment with the mission of the Futures Engine.
Graduate students and professionals in the energy, water, and air sectors are welcome to apply.

Applications are due July 18, 2025.
About the training
Ambassadors participate in workshops and one-on-one meetings to learn how to form meaningful relationships in the community and carry out a public engagement project. Projects take place outside traditional learning venues, such as museums and schools, to better include people who cannot or do not engage with science in conventional ways.
Previous engagement projects have included:

An ecologist guided a student group through collecting data on native and invasive plants

An ornithologist drew on their skills as a musician to write and perform music inspired by bird migrations

An anthropologist led a pottery workshop for youth in a secure residential facility
Through STEMAP training, Ambassadors gain public engagement skills that can be applied when communicating with stakeholders outside their field, developing innovative Broader Impacts for funding proposals, and improving public access to science.
